About the Instructor
Dr. Amy G. Tan is an experienced researcher, writer, and teacher with a passion for helping every student become a more confident, capable writer.
Teaching experience
From working with 9th graders just beginning their journey as writers, to instructing undergraduates in writing-intensive history seminars, to working with graduate students moving on in their careers, Dr. Tan has years of experience helping students grow as writers. She especially enjoys helping students identify specific ways they want to grow as writers and coming up with effective strategies to improve.
Dr. Tan employs a wide range of helpful tips, explanations, and examples as she helps students move to the next level in their writing. She believes that different styles of writing can be effective in different situations, and she is passionate about helping students identify which strategies work well for their personal approach and for the various types of assignments they may have across their academic career.
Writing experience
Dr. Tan isn't just a teacher: she is also a writer and researcher! Her book The Pastor in Print was published by Manchester University Press in 2022, and her articles have appeared in several academic publications including Political and Religious Practice in the Early Modern British World, The Seventeenth Century, and Reformation and Renaissance Review.
Dr. Tan holds degrees from Vanderbilt University (MA, PhD) and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (BA, MA).
